Netherlands East Indies. (Veldpost). 1947. Air Mail envelope written from Semarang endorsed 'On Active Service' addressed to the Netherlands bearing Netherlands Indies SG 474, 17 1/2c scarlet (pair) and SG 475, 20c brown-purple tied by Veldpost/ Semarang double ring in blue. Very fine.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
