Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1946. Un-stamped Air Mail envelope written from 'Lt. R.N.N. Brinkman, Hr. Ms "Ceram", M.P.K.S. Sourabaya', endorsed 'On Active Service' addressed to Australia cancelled by Marine Postkantoor date stamp '3rd Dec 46' and 'Ned Indie 35ct/ Batavia/ Marine' meter cachet in carmine dated Batavia '4/12' with instructional hand-stamp 'Please Advise Your Correspondence of Your Present Address' in violet on face and Brisbane receiver on reverse.

A rare 'MARINE POST' meter mail item sent during the War of Independence.

The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
