Netherlands East Indies. (Netherlands International Civil Administration). 1948. Stamp-less Air Mail envelope written from 'V. Brigade, Poerwokerto, Java' addressed to Padang endorsed 'Militaire/ V.V.P.', cancelled by '18' date stamp '27th Oct' with hand-stamp 'Niet in Mil. Hosp. Padang' on face with Veldpost/ Padang arrival '8th Nov 48'. Very nice item of mail from the Netherlands International Civil Administration during the War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
