Netherlands East Indies. (Registered Veldpost Mail). 1948. Registered un-stamped envelope addressed to Batavia headed 'Dienst. V.V.P.' with circular 'Leger Technische Dienst/ Locale Werkplaats/ 717' on face and hand-stamp 'R/ "B" Div. Leger Luchtpost' in violet. Scarce item of registered Veldpost mail from the War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody struggle until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
