Registered un-stamped envelope addressed to Batavia with circular 'Generale Staf/ Leger VR Dienst/ A.H.K./ K.N.I.L./ K.L.' on face with framed hand-stamp 'R/ Verbindinpost/ A.H.K. No' in violet. Scarce item of Veldpost mail sent registered during the War of Independence. Superb quality.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
