Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1946. Un-stamped Air Mail envelope written from 'Marine Officer Marva 11, G.J. Veeger, Batavia' addressed to Sweden headed 'Dienst/ V.V.P. Exp. No' and bearing 'Dutch Rule' SG 476, 30c grey (pair) with adjacent 'Commandement Der Marine/ Batavia' and Gravenhage transit '5th Oct 46.'
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
