Netherlands East Indies. (Veldpost). 1949. Air Mail written from Magelang addressed to Holland bearing Indonesia SG 532, 15c orange and SG 533, 20c light blue (pair) tied by '142/ X' date stamp '27th July 49.' Nice item of Veldpost mail from the Dutch War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Decd 1949.
