Air Mail envelope written from the Royal Netherlands Indies Army addressed to Semarang bearing Netherlands Indies SG 472, 10c brown tied by framed 'Nederlandschindie/ P.T.T./ 12 Dec1945/ Balikpapan' with circular 'Passed by/ R.N.F. Censor/ No 48' and countersigned. Superb.
The Battle of Balikpapan was the campaign to liberate Japanese held British and Dutch Borneo. Beginning on July 1st 1945 with Allied troops from the Australian 7th Division, United States, the Allied Fleet and a small number of K.N.I.L. Netherlands Indies Troops. Australian Forces remained in Dutch Borneo until early 1946.
