Netherlands East Indies. (Royal Netherlands Force - Borneo Censor). 1946. Air Mail envelope written from the Royal Netherlands Indies Army NICA X1 (Netherlands Indies Civil Administration) addressed to 'The Central Information Bureau, Ned Indische, Roude Kruis, Batavia' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 467, 1c green (3) and SG 421, 7 1/2c olive tied by Tarakan date stamp '15th Jan 46' with circular 'Passed by/ R.N.F. Censor/ No 50' on face in violet and countersigned with Batavia receiver on reverse. Superb item.

The small Dutch Borneo island of Tarakan was a strategic Air Base for the Japanese following the Dutch surrender. The Battle of Tarakan was the 1st stage in the Borneo Campaign. Australian and US Troops secured the island for the Allies.
