Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1947. Un-stamped envelope endorsed 'On Active Service' addressed to Batavia cancelled by oval 'Marine - Postkantoor/ Batavia' dated '18th July 47' in green with framed 'K.M./ Marvo. N.I./ Batavia' on reverse in violet. Very fine.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
