Netherlands East Indies. (Dutch Rule Restored). 1946. Air Mail envelope addressed to Holland bearing Netherlands Indies SG 471, 7 1/2c olive and SG 474, 17 1/2c carmine tied by 'Postkantoor/ Oranji Boulavaart/ Batavia' date stamp in violet with large bold 'Per Luchtmail' label on face. Very fine. Attractive item.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
