Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1947. Stampless Air Mail envelope endorsed 'On Active Service' addressed to the Netherlands cancelled by oval 'Marine - Postkantoor/ Soerabaja' dated '28th July 47' in violet.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
