Registered envelope addressed to the Netherlands bearing Indonesia 'National Sports' SG 655 to 659, 35s + 10s blue tied by Marine Post/ Djakarta date stamp '25th Oct 51' with framed hand-struck 'Marine - Postkantoor/ Djakarta/ R. No (149) on face with Arnhem arrival on reverse.
Registered mail from the Marine Substation is scarce.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
