Netherlands East Indies. (Dutch War of Independence). 1947. Air Mail envelope addressed to 'The French Zone, Wurttemberg' bearing Netherlands Indies 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 477, 60c grey tied by Batavia Centrum date stamp with circular ''Dev/ 5' censor hand-stamp, endorsed 'Par Avion' with 'Opened by Allied Censorship (Neth) label tied by circular 'A.C.N./ 3037' censor hand-stamp on face and reverse with 'Nederlandscheposteryen' label applied by the Dutch Post Office for damaged mail.

The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
