Netherlands East Indies. (Veldpost). 1947. Illustrated Air Mail envelope written from Dutch 'R.V.A./ 6' addressed to the Netherlands written from Batavia cancelled by Veldpost - Batavia/ 8' date stamp.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
