Netherlands East Indies. (Dutch Rule Restored). 1947. Envelope written from Semarang headed 'Dienst/ Dep V. Oorlog' addressed to the Netherlands bearing 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 475, 20c brown, SG 476, 30c grey and SG 487, 5c indigo tied by Batavia Centrum date stamp '7th Jan 47', with circular 'Centrale Expeditie/ Adjudant' and framed 'Signals' in carmine and violet.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
