Envelope addressed to '2nd Regiment, Veldpost, Soerabaja' bearing Netherlands Indies 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 472, 10c brown tied by Soerabaja double ring '29th Aug 47', hand-stamped 'Onbekend'(Unknown) with instructional 'Ret. Afz.' in violet on face with adjacent 'Veldpost - Soerabaja' double ring '13th Sept'.

Scarce item of Interrupted mail during the War of Independence.

The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
