Netherlands East Indies. (Veldpost - War of Independence). 1946. Air Mail envelope headed 'Luchtpost', written from Denpasar addressed to the Netherlands and forwarded to Rotterdam, endorsed 'In Act. Dienst' (On Active Service) bearing Netherlands Indies 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 472, 10c red-brown and SG 476, 30c grey (2) tied by Vlaardingen date stamp '16th Dec 46' with adjacent circular 'Elephant' Veldpost/ Y - Brig' in carmine (struck twice).

The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
