Netherlands East Indies. (War of Independence). 1947. Air Mail envelope written from a Corporal in the Marine Post Kantoor, Soerabaja' endorsed 'On Active Service' and dated '26th Sept 47' addressed to Germany bearing 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 473, 15c blue and SG 476, 30c grey (2) tied by Marine Post (anchor) double ring '30/9' with Batavia 107/ Marine/ Ned Indie 35ct' meter cachet in red with 'Opened by Allied Censorship (Neth) L. 2362 - 46' tied by circular 'A.C.N./ 3033' in blue on face and reverse.

A rare Marine Post Meter mail with additional stamps sent during the War of Independence to Germany with Netherlands Allied censorship.

The Dutch East Indies declared Independence from Holland at 10am 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and conflict until the Dutch recognized independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
