Netherlands Indies. 1947. Air Mail envelope with circular cachet 'Comite International de la Croix Rouge/ Delegation in Batavia' in red on face and reverse addressed to 'The International Committee of the Red Cross, Dept, Hotel Carlton, Geneva' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 341, 5c ultramarine mixed with 'Dutch Rule' SG 478, 1g turquoise and SG 509, 50c indigo tied by Batavia Central date stamp with circular 'Dev/ 2' censor.

The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
