Red Cross stamp-less envelope addressed to Tinombo cancelled by Batavia date stamp '5th Feb 1942' with circular Red cross cachet and hand-struck instructional 'Retour Afzender/ Postvb. Verbroke' in violet on face (Postal Communication Interrupted) and endorsed 'Retour' to Batavia. The Celebes were invaded by the Japanese in January 1942 with Batavia being attacked in February 1942 so all mail between the islands of the Netherlands East Indies was 'Service Suspended'.
