Circular cachet in red translated as. The Delegated Ship Captain of the French Navy. Near the Commander in-chief of the Navel Forces Russian.

A unique item from the combined Russian and French Navy in World War One part of the Baltic Fleet. Around this time February early March 1917 Russia entered a turbulent period with the Russian (Bolshevik) Revolution.

Siberia/ Censored' and signed by the Censorship with Pittsburgh PA. on reverse 'June 25th.'

Major General Graves arrived at Vladivostok on September 1st 1918 with 5000 Eighth Division troops. Finding no threat to the city he ordered the troops to their Garrison. Graves stated that U.S. Troops were "not here to fight Russia or any group or fraction in Russia. A strict policy of neutrality was immediately announced to the troops. Bolsheviks and White Russians would be treated equally.

The French Gunboat "Balny" was active on the Blue and Yellow River (Yang -Tse) from 1914 - 1944.

Thailand. (Prisoner of War Camps in India). 1918. Picture post card of 'Siamese Women, Bangkok' addressed to 'W. Engelhardt, (No 2160), Prisoner of War Camp, Ahmednagor, India' endorsed 'Service of Prisoners of War', cancelled by Bangkok/ 2 date stamp '2nd August 18.'

Siam declared war on Germany and Austria on the 22nd July 1917, all German and Austrians residing in Siam were placed under arrest, businesses closed and nine steamers had been seized.

The Prisoners of War were held in Bangkok Internee Camp and the Siam German Concentration Camp, Ayudhya.

On the 13th February 1918 the Germans (180 men, 90 women and children) departed on the "Pia Samud" and 'Den Samud" for Ahmednagar Camp in India for the duration of the War.

Lovely item written from the campaign written by Capt. Maxwell Seton (whom after the war produced more than 15 Hollywood movies) to his sweetheart in Egypt. A very interesting four page text from TESSENEI the Indian Field and Army Post Office being in Tessenie, Eritrea 10.10.41 - 1.4.43.

Captain Maxwell was Chief Censor to the Occupied Enemy Territory Administration in Asmara, Eritrea and also in Cyrenaica.

The Protecting Powers (Great Britain, Russia, France, Italy, Germany and Austria - Hungary) imposed a blockade on Crete in 1897 and following Ottoman approval , established control of the island.

The 'SMS "Dresden" escaped the Battle of Falklands and retreated into the Pacific Ocean to raid on Allied ships. A British squadron HMS 'Kent" and "Glasgow" found the "Dresden: in Mas a Tierra Bay Island and sunk her. The 315 of "Dresden's" crew were interned for the War on QUIRIQUINA ISLAND in the Bay of Conception.

Its a real pleasure to add a magnificent selection of French Colonies from Africa, Asia, The Caribbean and Oceania. Very fine pre-stamp, British Post Office, Charged Mail, Advice of Receipt, Printed Matter and postage due mail. A lovely selection of censor mail, some with five or six censor cachets and labels, routed Trans-Africa, two Ocean or over the Atlantic with some unusual destinations.

A few items from the Dr. Edward Grabowski collection, this amazing sale sold in three parts by Spink. Also interesting Tahiti and New Caledonia from Tony Eastgate's life time work.

China, French Indo China and Chinese Labour Force.

A strong area of stock is our China from Imperial to WW2 with many fine censor covers and Air Transits. A good selection of the overseas Post Offices, Austrian, British, French, Japanese and Russian with offices in Manchuria. Many mixed combinations, I.P.O's .

Coming soon the John Marc Sitarek accumulation of China, French Post Office and Indo-China with magnificent French Detachment in the Boxer Campaign covers.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
