Niger Coast. (West African Frontier Force). 1900. Envelope written from Bedford addressed to 'W.H. Hamilton-Browne, 2nd Battalion, West African Frontier Force, Lokojo, Forcados, West Africa' bearing Great Britain SG 172, 1d lilac tied by Bedford dated stamp 'Jy 13 1900' routed via Liverpool with oval 'Lokoja/Post Office' arrival '18 Aug 1900' in violet on reverse, endorsed '6th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, Finsbury Barracks' and forwarded to London with arrival 'Nov 14' and re-directed to Exmouth with arrival 'No 16' on face. Walter Hamilton-Browne became a Lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers July 1899 and was promoted to Captain in October 1900 and took part in the Munshi Expedition during 1900 were this letter tried to reach him. Scarce item of mail into the Frontier Force.
