Gilbert Islands. (Coast Watcher P.O.W.). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to 'Private R. Jones, Ocean Island, N.Z.E.F. ' bearing SG 580, 2d orange (2), SG 609, 3d blue, SG 613, 1/2d blue-green (2), SG 621, 6d violet and green and SG 628, 1d on 1/2d green tied by Auckland date stamp '10 Nov 41' with framed 'New Zealand -Fiji/ Air Mail Service/ Inaugural Flight/ 1941' on face with large pointed finger 'Returned To Sender' and hand-stamp 'Prisoner of War' , forwarded to Kuria and returned via Suva/Fiji '13th Nov 41'. Reg Jones from Auckland was a Coast Watcher who was beheaded on 15th Oct 1942. A rare item.
