South Africa. (Basutoland). 1944. Air Mail envelope written from 'R.P. Jones, Camp D'Internment Militaire, St. Gallen sent 'c/o S.A. Red Cross, South Africa House, London' to be forwarded to 'P.O. Maseru, Basutoland' bearing Switzerland Yvert 312, 20c red tied by 'Camp Militaire d'Internment/ Suisse' with German censor tape tied by German censor cachet and forwarded bearing Great Britain SG 470, 6d purple tied by London dispatch '18th May 44' . Almost certainly Jones was a British soldier a volunteer from Basutoland in the signal corps, captured and interned in Italy he escaped over the Swiss border and writes back (undercover) c/o the red Cross South Africa House to his parents.
