Spain. (Italy). 1764. Pre-stamp folded letter addressed to Cadiz written from Genoa dated '23rd August 1764', with hand-struck '6. R s' on face in carmine.
The 6 Rs (reales) rate mark, hand-stamped rate marks this early are exceptional. The rate was set at 6 reales de vellon per half onza in the Regulation of 2nd December 1716.
Carried by sea as no Madrid transit markings normally found on overland mail.
