Thailand. (Burma-Thai Railway). 1944. Air Mail Australian Prisoner of War Post Card headed 'Prisoner of War/ Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' addressed to 'Driver Harris, Australian Prisoner of War, No 5141, Camp Thai, Thailand' upgraded with Australia SG 188, 4d green tied by Perth roller '12th Oct 44' with triangular '3/ Passed by Censor/ 366' censor on face, endorsed 'Bangkok 18th Sept 45' with ms 'Supply Depot' on face. Harris had been sent from Java to Burma via Singapore on 14th October 42, originally at Thanbyuzayat, Harris delayed his repatriation and volunteered as a supply driver. Private Harris finally sailed home on the "S.S. Morton Bay" 15th October 1945.An Air Mail service was introduced in Maerch 1944 for POW and Civilian internee mail to East Asia paying the 4d postcard rate.
