  • £275.00

Thailand. (Siam Steam Navigation Co). Circa 1930. Envelope addressed to 'The East Asiatic Co. Ltd. Bangkok' bearing SG 255, 10s scarlet tied by 'Siam Steam Navigation Co.' "buckle" obliterator in black.

The 'Siam Steam Navigation Company' 1909 - 1940 was first founded by Dane 'H.N. Andersen' who developed the 'Danish East Asiatic Co.'
By 1909 the service was weekly from Bangkok for Chumporn, Bandon, Lacon, Singora, Kelantan and Singapore.
The Thai Government became perturbed by the amount of foreign trade along the Malaya Peninsula and a new company was formed 'The Siam Steam Navigation Company adding ships already owned by the Danish masters and the East Asiatic Line.
The ships carried passengers with accommodation, cargo such as rice, the post and supplied shop keepers in the towns along the route.

The Philatelists Association of Thailand issue No 12 carried a wonderful article on these elusive items by JOHN GARNER on the history, routes and Ships of the S.S.N.C.

John notes cancellations on stamps or piece as scarce while covers cancelled on the ships are rare.

(A copy of the article is accompanied with the purchase of either cover).
