Thailand. (Burma Overland Mail). 1906. Envelope addressed to France bearing Siam SG 104, 24a brown tied by Chiengmai date stamp '27th Sept 06', routed via Rahang '9th Oct' with Sea Post Office 'Oct 27' .
Although by 1906 the rail service from Bangkok went as far as Paknampo it was still muck quicker overland from Chiengmai via Lampang and Raheng (Tak( to Myawaddy, Kawkareik and Moulmein then by 'P & O' liner to Bombay and Aden.
The Chiengmai - Raheng part of the route still took 14 days and the journey via Kawkareik to Moulmein only had five mail carriers with no bridges so in the rainy season the mail carriers had to wait until the mountain torrents became fordable.
