Air Mail envelope addressed to the 'British Embassy, Bangkok, Siam' bearing Great Britain 'Wilding' SG 585, 1/3d green tied by London roller '3rd Nov 1958' with Bangkok slogan receiver '8th Nov' on reverse with 'SHIELD' hand-stamp reading 'Department of News Censorship/ Military' in carmine on face.
Field Marshall 'Sarit Thanarat' came to power in the military coup of 1957. Under his dictatorial Government all mail containing newspapers or cuttings was subject to censorship.
