(Panama). 1851. stamp-less envelope written from San Francisco date 'Sept 12th 1851' addressed to London with British Post Office 'Panama' date stamp 'Oct 7' and rated '2s' in m/s. with London receiver '11th Nov ' on reverse. Nice item written by Captain Edward Fanshawe commander of the "Daphne" with interesting account on San Francisco life during the Gold Rush.
Letter carried on the "Daphne" to Panama City and across the Isthmus by rail or stage and steamer to New York before crossing the Atlantic.
