Stamp- less folded letter written from Amsterdam dated '8th April 1803' addressed to Providence, Rhode Island endorsed 'per "HOPE" via Boston', rated '12' in m/s red ink, circular Boston/ Ms transit 'July 3rd' in red on face and hand-struck 'SHIP' with endorsement 'July 4th' indicating arrival in Rhode Island.
The "Hope" had been a slave ship operating from Rhode Island and the Caribbean until being sold in Lorient in 1797.
