Folded letter written from New York dated 'July 8 1843' addressed to Schiedam, Holland endorsed 'Per Great Western' with framed 'Jy 26 1843/ Liverpool/ Ship' on reverse in black (Robertson S. 16), London transit '27 Jy' and manuscript '4/2' (U.K. debit to Holland) with hand-struck Dutch entry cachet 'Engeland/ over Rotterdam' on reverse in red (Van der Linden 1028) and Schiedam arrival 'July 31' and manuscript '340' Dutch cents due rating and endorsed '1-70/ 2gr' in black ink on reverse.

Early in 1840 Dutch and British agreed to allow transit fee to be debited to the Dutch and allow unpaid letters to be forwarded through the U.K. Previously up until 1835 the British required the fees to be paid in full before they allowed letters to be forwarded.
