Thailand. (Netherlands Post Office in Bangkok).1946. Stamp-less envelope endorsed 'On Active Service' written by Capt Theelan to his wife in Maastricht cancelled by 'Ned. Postkantoor / Bangkok dated '15th July 46' on face. Capt Theelen had been a Dutch P.O.W. on the Thai-Burma railway while awaiting repatriation he organized the Netherlands Mission. The cancel was received by Theelan on the 26th March 1946.Very fine.

Censor hand-stamp '134' not recorded by Morenweiser or Mike Mead.

Australian Red Cross Society Letter Sheet headed 'Prisoner of War Post / Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' written from Hay, N.S.W. addressed to 'Driver Harris, P.O.W. No 5141, Thai camp, Thailand cancelled Hay / N.S.W. date stamp '10th June 44' with '3/ Opened by Censor' tape tied by triangular '3/Passed by Censor / 299' in violet and endorsed on reverse 'Received Bangkok 18th Sept 45'. Harris had been sent from Java to Burma via Singapore on 14th October 42 originally at Thanbyuzayat, Harris was moved to 105 kilo Camp and Tamarkan Camp. Very rare Australian red Cross folded letter sheet addressed to Thailand. Not recorded by David Tett.
Thailand. (Liberated Dutch P.O.W.s Burma Thai Railway). 1945. Blue Air Letter endorsed 'On Active Service /Ex P.O.W. Mail' written from 'Sergeant H. Severijin, Cholbury, Siam' date 'Cholbury 24th October 1945' addressed to his wife also an internee in Bandoeng, Java. Mail from Chonburi Liberation camp is scarce.

Having recorded over one hundred Thai censor hand-stamps from 1 to 10 we believe 6 or 9 to be the most common and '2 with a serif only two seen by us and this type the only example we have seen. Nils Ramm-Ericson had no examples illustrated in his 'Airmails of Siam' four volumes.

Air Mail envelope headed 'First Bangkok to London / via Air Mail / Marseilles-London / 2-10-1928' addressed to London bearing Thailand SG 255, 10s carmine and SG 257, 25s orange and black tied by wavy line obliteration in violet with adjacent Bangkok GPO date stamp and hand-struck 'Via Air Mail / Marseilles-London', Number 19 of 35 flown and signed by the pilot 'C.J.' Chan' on reverse. Scarce item the 'accelerated' service to London was inaugurated on 2nd October 1928. The routed was South Express from Bangkok to Penang, ship to Calcutta across India by train and ship via Suez to Marseille then Union Air to London.
Thailand. (Burma-Thai Railway).1944. Australian Prisoner of War Post Card headed 'Prisoner of War Post/ Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' written from 'Mrs. A. Matthews, Hay, N.S.W.' dated '13th October 1944' addressed to 'Driver Harris, Australian Prisoner of War. No 5141. Camp Thai, Thailand' cancelled by Hay / N.S.W. date stamp '14th Oct 44' with endorsement 'Bangkok 18th Sept 45' with m/s 'Supply Depot' on face. Harris had been sent from Java to Burma via Singapore on 14th Octobeer 42 originally at Thanbyuzayat, Harris was moved to 105 Kilo Camp and Tamarkan Camp. Private Harris delayed his repatriation and volunteered as a supply driver. Private Harris finally sailed home on the S.S. ''Morton Bay'' 15th October 1945.

Its a real pleasure to add a magnificent selection of French Colonies from Africa, Asia, The Caribbean and Oceania. Very fine pre-stamp, British Post Office, Charged Mail, Advice of Receipt, Printed Matter and postage due mail. A lovely selection of censor mail, some with five or six censor cachets and labels, routed Trans-Africa, two Ocean or over the Atlantic with some unusual destinations.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
