Set No 1/ Sor' double ring '30th Ap 13'. Very unusual item sent via Burma with Rangoon Rail Mail Section postmark only two known by Proud in 1915/16.

Very fine 1 franc rate three colour franking for mail via Marseille from the 'Captain Lebon' correspondence of the Second French Military in Japan.

The French Military Mission to Japan comprised of a Unit of 50 men made up of ace pilots from the First World War. There were a total of 21 Officers and non-commissioned officers plus 27 enlisted men. The Unit was commanded by Colonel Faure. They departed Marseille on '20/11/18' and arrived in Nagasaki on '12/1'19' having called at many ports on the way. The aim of the Mission was to provided aviation support to Japan's forces in Siberia. The Mission was due to end '1/10/19' but because of the welcome received from the people and Emperor of Japan the Unit stayed until '31st March 1920.'
This item was posted by the French Military Mission in Paris before they departed from Marseille.

Air Mail envelope addressed to Yokio, Japan cancelled by 'Liverpool 1/2d PAID' machine cachet in red '22nd Feb 1946' with instructional 'No Service/ Return To Sender' in violet on face and 'Returned To Sender/ By The Censor/ For Reason Explained in / Memorandum Enclosed/ In This Cover' and signed by the censor with letter enclosed. A rare item of censored mail to Japan.

Japan. (Netherlands). 1941. Envelope addressed to Japan bearing Holland Yvert 373, 12 1/2c ultramarine tied by Arnhem slogan '6th July 41' with hand-struck 'Zuruck ! Keine/ Beforderungsmoglichkeit (Return/ Back/ No Transport Possibility) with German censor tape tied by German censor cachet on reverse. Nice item of interrupted mail.
This German instructional not listed by 'Karl - Heinz Riemer' in his book on German censor labels and hand-struck cachets.

Envelope written from Transvaal addressed to the Philippines bearing Transvaal SG 274, 1d red tied by Transvaal roller addressed to England with London arrival and forwarded bearing Great Britain SG 218, 1/2d yellow -green and SG 219, 1d scarlet (pair) tied by Thrapston double ring 'June 6 09' and re-directed to Manila with Manila/ R.L.O. on reverse 'July 12' and once again forwarded to Japan with Tokio '19th July' and instructional label for re-direction attached with Yokohama receiver '21st July. Very interesting item.
