Persian Gulf. (India Used In Persia). 1918. Censored envelope addressed to Scotland bearing India SG 170, 2a6p ultramarine tied by Abadan double ring '16th Mar 18' with adjacent Crown censor in red. The Abadan Postal Agency was opened in 1917-23 to service the mail from the works in the oil field and refinery on this small island of Shatt-el-Arab. Very fine and rare exhibition item.
Persian Gulf. (Qatar). 1966. Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to the Netherlands bearing SG 31, 40 n.p. red (pair) tied by oval Registered/Doha Qatar date stamp with registered Doha/2 label and Dedemsvaart arrival. Very fine commercially used cover.
Persian Gulf. (Sharjah). 1932. Printed Air Mail envelope 'By Imperial Airways/First Arabian Air Mail/England to India via Arabian Coast/ Oct 1st 1932' addressed to 'The Aerodrome, Sharjah, Arabia' bearing Great Britain SG 426, 6d purple tied by Hilton Road, Hudson's Place date stamp '1st Oct 32'. The Imperial Airways Service was changed to the Arabian side on October 1st 1932, the service was diverted to the Arabian Gulf via Basra, Bahrain, Sharjar and Guadar. Few covers were issued by the Company to mark this event.

Air Mail envelope addressed to India bearing India SG 52, 3a6p violet tied by Kuwait machine type date stamp with framed 'Passed by Censor/Kuwait' hand-stamp with 'Opened by Examiner' label tied by boxed 'Crown/Passed/DHC/80' censor hand-stamp with Bombay arrival. Un-overprinted stamp of India were used in Kuwait between 1941 and 1945. Very fine item of censored mail.

During the War overprinted stamps were unobtainable and Indian stamps provided emergency cover. Rare Thus.

Wonderful item of Boundary Commission mail from the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on the Aden/Yemen Border Fighting against the incursions of the Turks. Proud records the Active Service/Unpaid used from 2/2 to 20/2 1903.

Its a real pleasure to add a magnificent selection of French Colonies from Africa, Asia, The Caribbean and Oceania. A lovely selection of censor mail, some with five or six censor cachets and labels, routed Trans-Africa, two Ocean or over the Atlantic with some unusual destinations.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
