Gold Coast. 1891. Registered Gold Coast postal stationery envelope 2d blue upgraded with SG 16, 4d deep mauve (pair) tied by Elmina date stamp addressed to Germany with Cape Coast and oval Registered/ London transit with Hamburg arrival. Very fine.

Malta. (Ireland). 1916. Mourning envelope addressed to Killarney, Ireland bearing Malta SG 73, 1d carmine tied by Zeitun date stamp '4th May 1916' with 'Opened under Martial Law' censor label and circular 'Passed by Censor/ No 1081' cachet in red with Irish sealing label 'Found Open and Officially Sealed' with Killarney arrival '12th May'. Interesting item believed to have been damaged in the aftermath of the Easter Rising (April 24, 1916). Only 13 Zeitun covers have been recorded.

Mauritius. (Ireland). 1850. Stamp-less envelope written from Mauritius addressed to Bordeaux cancelled by 'Crown/ Mauritius/ G.P.O.' date stamp, charged '15' in m/s with boxed accountancy 'Colonies/ & Art 13' in red, sent on the steamer 'Bruk-Green' via Cork with hand-struck 'Cove/ Ship-Letter' in blue (Robertson S1) and Queenstown date stamp on reverse, rated '8' in blue paying the 'ship letter', routed via London with French entry cachet and Bordeaux arrival on reverse. Nice use of the Cove Ship Letter in blue from 1846 to 1850.

China. (Manchuria). 1936. Receipt form for registered mail bearing SG 41, 1f brown, SG 67, 5f indigo and SG 82, 2f green tied by vernacular date stamp. Scarce item from Manchuria.

China. (Russian Post Offices in Manchuria). 1904. Picture post card written from Port Arthur dated '15th Jan 04' addressed to Vichy, France bearing Russia Yvert 41, 4k rose tied by Port Artur/ Pochtov Kont/ 7 date stamp (Tchil Fig 542) with Vichy receiver and forwarded to Biskra/ Constantine (Algeria) with arrival on face '21st Feb'. Scarce 'A.V./2' cover from French Liban (Lebanon).

Perhaps faint Egyptian censorship on face also.

THAILAND. (THE BURMA MAIL ROUTE). 1908. Indian postal stationery card 'one anna' blue cancelled by Mawlu/ Katha' date stamp 'Dec 30 08' addressed to 'Dr Kerr, Chiengmai via Moulmein and Raheng'ith Raheng transit on reverse. Fine item of mail routed via the Burma overland route via Raheng and Lampang.

Nice item.

French Colonies (Madagascar). 1941. Envelope addressed to Majunga bearing French Madagascar Yvert 164, 5c green and carmine, Yvert 166, 15c red (pair) and Yvert 172, 65c brown and lilac tied by Diego-Suarez double ring '5th Dec 41' with 'British Censorship' tape tied by oval 'British Military Administration/ Passed by Censor/ 111 Madagascar' in violet. Scarce B.M.A. censor used from Diego Suarez.
Initially from June 1940 Madagascar sided with Vichy France. The British after a Japanese attack on Ceylon in April '42 feared Vichy providing a base for the Japanese and cutting off Allied supply routes around the Cape launched operation "Ironclad" leading to the setting up on 16th September 42 a B.M.A. The Vichy French capitulated on 6th Nov 42 and mail from the early part of the B.M.A. is rare.

French Colonies. (Somalis Coast - Free French). 1943. Air Mail envelope addressed to Canada bearing Cote des Somalis Yvert 226, 2f orange (3) and Yvert 229, 3f violet (2) tied by Djibouti double ring '1st Dec' with red censor tape tied by 'Ouvert/ Par/ l'Autorite Militaire' in blue with 'Postes Aux Armees/ B.C.M./ 4' Free French Libre on reverse dated '16th Nov 1943' and circular 'Cross Loraine' in blue on face with 'A/3' censor cachet. Superb item.

Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to New York bearing French Cameroun Yvert 231, 10f lilac tied by Doula/ Cameroun date stamp '10th Sept 41' with matching registration label with circular 'Controle Postal/ Commission A/ Territoire du Cameroun', endorsed 'Jusqu a Lagos' with Lagos transit and 'Nigeria/ Opened by Censor' label tied by boxed 'Passed by Censor/ 12/ Nigeria' and triangular 'L/7' in carmine, Brazzaville/ Congo transit and New York/ Reg receiver '17/10' on reverse. Very nice item of British censorship in Madagascar.
Scarce British censor label John Little 'BL V11' the P.C. 90 being level with the end of 'BY', only known date 10 Oc 44.

Nice combination.

French Colonies. (Congo Francaise). 1910. Unstamped envelope endorsed 'l'agent Postal' and signed by the postmaster addressed to M'Ongouma, French Congo cancelled by 'Moyen Congo/ Oueso' double ring '31st Jan 10' with 'T' hand-stamp and bearing Congo Francaise Yvert 37, 50c violet and grey and Yvert 42, 10c rose tied by 'Congo Francaise/ Mongouma' and hand-stamped triangular 'T' for postage due. Superb item the Congo region was changed to French Equatorial Africa (A.E.F.) on Jan 15th 1910.

Very rare usage as Provisional Postage Due.

A similar cover in the "Dr Ed Grabowski' Spink, Africa sale November 13 2019 lot 585 sold for 1500 GBP. described as being 'fine and possibly unique'.

News-Band wrapper addressed to Pointe-a-Pitre bearing French General Colonies Yvert 17, 5c green tied by 'Guadeloupe/ Capesterre' double ring '5th Nov' with Pointe-a-Pitre arrival on reverse. Very scarce single franking 5c Ceres paying the domestic printed matter rate from the small village of Capesterre.

Note the envelope has been clipped as prove of paying the printed matter rate. These items are very scarce. In many years trading I have seen very few,
