After the invasion of Serbia the Serbian military retreated through Albania to the Greek Islands manly to Corfu and Salonique. With the help of the Allies a contingent was then sent to Bizerte. Tunisia, North Africa. A very interesting item of mail addressed to the Serbian refugees in Bizerte, Tunisia.

The French Navy Force under the Command of Rene-Emile Godfroy known as 'Force X' had their Battleship "Lorraine" and three Cruisers including the "Tourville" under his command interned in Egypt. He negotiated with British Admiral Andrew Cunningham for the Peaceful internment of his ships at Alexandria until 1943. A superb item

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
