Very rare two line censor label from Soerabaja only known date '28th May 40.' Only one censor cover known, see Nico de Weijer's wonderful book on Netherlands Indies censorship.

United States. (Hong Kong - Trans-Pacific Mail). 1940. Air Mail envelope addressed to Bombay, India bearing 'New York N.Y./ U.S. Postage Paid 4. 20' meter label dated 'Apr 2 40', endorsed 'via Transpacific Clipper' on face in violet, routed via Hong Kong with 'Victoria transit '20th Ap' on reverse with triangular 'Passed Censor/ Hong Kong/ 9' in violet on face with 'Opened by Censor/ Hong Kong' label and Bombay arrival '2nd May'. Very nice item paying the three times rate over the Pacific.
Germany. (North Africa). 1942. Envelope addressed to Blida, Algeria bearing Germany 'Hitler' 25pf blue tied by Kaiserau date stamp endorsed 'Territory Non Occupie' with 'Zuruch/ Keine Boitverbinding' hand-stamp on face in violet struck twice. with '22 Feb. 1942'. Nice item of interrupted mail, cannot be routed via Switzerland.
Its a real pleasure to add a magnificent selection of French Colonies from Africa, Asia, The Caribbean and Oceania. Very fine pre-stamp, British Post Office, Charged Mail, Advice of Receipt, Printed Matter and postage due mail. A lovely selection of censor mail, some with five or six censor cachets and labels, routed Trans-Africa, two Ocean or over the Atlantic with some unusual destinations.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
