The single numeral censor appears to have been applied to mail in transit from Singapore in early 1940.

This single censor numeral appears to have been applied to mail in transit from Singapore up to May 1940.

Very scarce 'No 28' censor cachet attributed to Lahad Datu by Morenweiser from '14th Dec 40 until 9th April 41.'

Air Mail envelope written from Addis Abeba addressed to Austria bearing Eritrea Yvert 199, 25c green, Yvert 201, 1l grey/blue and Air Mail Yvert 24, 2l indigo tied by Addis Abeba double ring '25th Nov 40' with 'Verificato Per Censura' label and framed 'Censore no 1 SC' hand-stamp and circular 'A/d' censor cachet in violet on face. Very fine.

Italian Colonies. (Eritrea - Italian Occupation). 1940. Air Mail envelope addressed to Switzerland bearing Eritrea Yvert 192, 75c carmine (pair) and Air Mail Yvert 22, 1l indigo tied by Eritrea double ring '12th Aug 40' with 'Verificato Per Censura' label and boxed 'Censure No 2' violet hand-stamp sent 'Air Littoria.' Very fine.

Air Mail envelope addressed to Java, Netherlands Indies bearing Great Britain SG 467, 3d violet and SG 475, 1s bistre tied by London slogan '10th Dec 40' with 'Opened by Examiner/ 6209' censor label, endorsed 'Per Airmail via South Africa' with 'Geopend Door Censuur' censor label tied by circular 'Censuur/ 6' date stamp arrival '12th Feb 1941' and circular 'Dev/ 1' cachet in carmine. Very fine item sent on the 'Horseshoe' routed via Durban.

London' addressed to Malang, Java bearing Great Britain SG 467, 3d violet and SG 475, 1s brown tied by Portsmouth double ring '2nd Sept 40', with boxed 'From H.M. Ship/ Passed by Censor', signed and dated '2/9/40' on reverse with 'Opened by Examiner' label and 'Door Censuur Geopend' label tied by 'Gecensureerd' hand-stamp on face and reverse in carmine.
W.A. Wachter served on "HNLMS Jacob Van Heemskerck", after the German invasion of Holland the ship based itself in Portsmouth assigned to the Atlantic Convoy escort before helping the Allies re take Madagascar.
Nice item.

Envelope written from Glasgow addressed to Batavia, Java bearing Great Britain SG 467, 3d violet tied by 'Tanjong/ Priok' dateb stamp '8th Oct 41' with adjacent 'Paquebot hand-stamp and 'Geopend Door Censuur' label tied by 'Censuur/ 5' date stamp with 'Passed by Naval Censor' label on reverse and circular 'Ec. C.' and 'Dev/ 17' with hand-struck 'Censuur/ Gepasseerd/ 1' in carmine on face. Very scarce item of censored mail.
Applied when Royal Navy ships boarded mostly neutral (mostly Dutch) vessels and intercepted mail.

Air Mail Propaganda post card 'A Spitfire a day Keeps Hitler Away' addressed to London bearing SG 346, 15c blue and SG 352, 40c green tied by Djokjararta date stamp with 'Gecensureerd/ 2' censor hand-stamp on face, endorsed 'By KNILM/ Transman' with framed 'Crown/ Passed/ T. 116' British censor applied on arrival.

Envelope addressed to Djakarta bearing Japanese Occupation in Java SG 465, 5c blue (4) tied by Bandoeng date stamp '31st Dec 42' with hand-stamp 'Kao Yoo' (Official Mail) and framed 'Ken' etsuzumi' (censored) with oval censor seal in orange and Japanese receiver in Djakarta. Attractive item.

Very attractive item paying the surface 'Printed Matter' rate.
Spelling error "MLLITAIRE' for 'MILITAIRE' on label. Very rare, only one other example known from the "S. Masuyama" collection and illustrated in Nico de Weijer's wonderful book on Netherlands Indies censorship.

Persia. (Russian Occupation of Azerbaijan). 1918. Complete set of Russian Occupation of Azerbaijan (15) overprinted 'Occupation Azirbayedjan" believed to have been issued by the Russian Troops in Tabriz, the Persian Port of Azerbaijan at the time of the British Expedition by General Dunstervile,
Once listed by Yvert and SG the stamps are bogus, not much is known about there providence whether they were originally prepared in the Transcausasus or Paris. Ex Peter Greenway.
