Russia. (French Military Mission). 1917. Military mail envelope written from the 'Artillery Lourde Brigade, French Troops in Russia' addressed to 'Camp de Courneau/ S.P. 189 - B, French Military Mission' bearing Russia Yvert 105, 10k on 7k blue tied by '102e Regiment D' Artillerie Lourde/ 23rd Battarie/ Le Captaine - Commandant' double ring in violet. (Heavy Artillery Brigade).

Courneau Military Camp located in the Gironde was set up during WW1 to accommodate the Troops known as the Senegalese Skirmishers. The Colonel Troops withdrew in June 1916 due to unhealthy conditions in the camp. Following the departure of the skirmishers, 8,000 Russians loyal to the provisional KERENSKY government arrived in the camp in mid August 1917, in order to distance themselves from the maximalist Bolsheviks of La Courtine and their ultra-revolutionary ideas. They remained until the end of 1917, a period of three months.

The British Army Archangel Force utilised eight Army or Field Post Offices. PB 44 was a stationery Field Post Office at Bakharitza in use from '11.18 - 8.19,'

This item is believed to be the earliest date recorded.

Malaya P.O.W. card headed 'Furyo Yubin' (Prisoner of War) with 'Marai Furyo Shuyosho' (Malaya Prisoner of War Camp) 'Ken'etsuzumi' (censored) and typed 'Malai Furyo Shuosho No 1,' written by 'J.E. van Hutten, Soldier, Malay Furyo Shyosho' addressed to Bandoeng, Java with framed 'Ken' etsuzumi' and seal of "Asanuma" in orange.

Malaya 3rd Prisoner of War card with Malai Furyo Shuosho No 1. Camp No 1 was headquartered at Pakanbaroe, Sumatra.

Netherlands East Indies. (Thailand - Singapore - Prisoner of War Mail). 1945. German P.O.W. letter sheet headed 'Prisoner of War Post' and endorsed ' Dutch Prisoner of War' addressed to 'J. Streuve, Java Camp,' cancelled by Eindhoven date stamp '28th Mar 45' with boxed Nederland censor, routed via Egypt with censor in violet, on arrival Java Camp has been erased and noted 'Singapore' and 'Siam' in red crayon have been tried and returned to Palembang with framed 'Japanese hand-stamp 'Furyo Yubin' (Prisoner of War) on face with m/s '10/11/45' on reverse with '305' date stamp on reverse (Rangoon) dated '26th Nov 45' indicating Streuve was on a repatriation ship from Burma (Rangoon) and would have had to travel via Bangkok.

A similar cover also from the Netherlands to Streuve is illustrated in David Tett's "Dutch East Indies' 'Paradise Lost' volume 2.

Malaya. (Indian F.P.O.). 1946. Un-stamped Air Mail envelope written from Medan headed 'On Active Service' addressed to 'The Personal Officer, United Nation Church House, Dean's Yard, London' cancelled by 'F.P.O./ No 648' date stamp '20th Jun 46'. Very fine.

Filed Post Office No 648 allocated to Medan (14.10.45) - (12.11.46).

Thailand. (Laotian Civil War). 1971. Stamp-less Air Mail envelope addressed to Bangkok, cancelled by Thailand P.N.A. date stamp '25th June 1971' with framed 'Royal Thai Army Border Patrol' and Censor/ Checked cachet in violet, signed by the Commanding Officer with Bangkok GPO arrival on reverse and slogan postmark dated '27th June.'

Royal Thai Army Troops were on the Thai Laos border as part of 'Operation Phalat' a military offensive of the Laotian Civil War.

Air Mail envelope written from the Royal Netherlands Indies Army NICA X1 (Netherlands Indies Civil Administration) addressed to 'The Central Information Bureau, Ned Indische, Roude Kruis, Batavia' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 467, 1c green (3) and SG 421, 7 1/2c olive tied by Tarakan date stamp '15th Jan 46' with circular 'Passed by/ R.N.F. Censor/ No 50' on face in violet and countersigned with Batavia receiver on reverse. Superb item.

The small Dutch Borneo island of Tarakan was a strategic Air Base for the Japanese following the Dutch surrender. The Battle of Tarakan was the 1st stage in the Borneo Campaign. Australian and US Troops secured the island for the Allies.

A rare item from this small Dutch Borneo island.

Censor/ No 48' and countersigned. Superb.

The Battle of Balikpapan was the campaign to liberate Japanese held British and Dutch Borneo. Beginning on July 1st 1945 with Allied troops from the Australian 7th Division, United States, the Allied Fleet and a small number of K.N.I.L. Netherlands Indies Troops. Australian Forces remained in Dutch Borneo until early 1946.
