Jacob de Cordova was a Jewish Jamaican who founded the 'Jamaica Gleaner'.

The town was formed by Polish immigrants from Upper Silesia in the mid 19th Century.

Very fine.

Persian Gulf. (India used in Aden). 1889. Envelope addressed to Bombay bearing India SG 93, 3a brown-orange tied by Aden Cantonment squared circle 'Jan 14 89' with adjacent Sea Post Office/ E date stamp 'Jan 10'.

Very interesting item. Perhaps originating in another Gulf State with Sea Post Office transit '10th January and carried to Aden 'January 14th 1889.

Persian Gulf. (India used in Aden). Circa 1876. Envelope addressed to Meadow Street, Bombay bearing India SG 62, 2a orange (pair) tied by 'B - 22' obliterator with Aden date stamp 'Dec 9' (with no date slugs) and Sea Post Office/ B on reverse dated '13th Dec'. Very fine.

Thailand. (Ireland - Late Fee Paid). 1933 Registered envelope addressed to Ireland bearing SG 254, 5s violet and SG 255, 10s carmine (4) tied by Bangkok/ GPO date stamp '29 April' with matching registration label and framed instructional 'Late fee Paid' on face with Ros Cre receiver '24th July' on reverse.

Very few Late Fee covers known from Siam and this a very scarce destination from Bangkok to Ireland.

Thailand. (A.V. 2 - Canada). 1951. Air Mail envelope addressed to Vancouver bearing SG 334, 2b yellow, SG 335, 3b grey, SG 336, 5s purple (pair), SG 337, 10s green (pair) and SG 342, 1b blue tied by Bangkok GPO date stamp with bold 'A.V. 2' hand-stamp.

Nice five colour combination paying the 6 baht 30 satang Air Mail rate to Canada with Avis de Reception hand-stamp.

Thailand. (Laotian Civil War). 1971. Stamp-less Air Mail envelope addressed to Bangkok cancelled by Pua date stamp '22nd Sept 2514 (1971) with 'Royal Thai Army Border Patrol/ Command' hand-stamp in violet/ blue on face, endorsed 'Army Censor/ Checked' and signed by the Commanding Officer and Bangkok '24th Sept' arrival on reverse.

Royal Thai Army Troops had been in the Doi Phu Kha, National Park (Nan Province) on the Thai Laos border as part of 'Operation Phalat' a military offensive of the Laotion Civil War.

Thailand. (Singapore - Trans - Pacific Mail). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to Connecticut bearing SG 295, 25s orange and slate and SG 297, 1b grey and blue (strip of three on reverse) tied by Bangkok/ 1 date stamp with Thai censor circular '6' or '9' in violet and Singapore brown censor tape tied by 'Passed By/ Censor/ 155' on face and reverse with hand-stamp 'G' and '1' applied in Singapore.

Carried on 'California Clipper' to San Francisco and domestic service to Connecticut.

Thailand. (Penang - Australia). 1941. Envelope addressed to Melbourne, Australia bearing SG 292, 5s violet and SG 293, 10s red tied by GPO Inland Section date stamp '5th May 84 (41) with bold Thai censor circular '8' in violet on face, routed via Penang with brown censor tape tied by boxed 'Opened By/ Censor. 45' in violet on face and reverse. Very fine.

Thailand. (Censor Mail). 1941. Envelope addressed to Philadelphia bearing SG 289, 15s blue tied by Bangkok GPO date stamp '7th April 41' with circular '3' censor cachet in violet on face. Very fine.

Thailand. (Horse Shoe Route). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to Switzerland bearing SG 297, 1b grey and ultramarine tied by Bangkok date stamp '28th June 84 (41)' with Thai censor circular '6' or '9' in violet, routed via Penang with brown censor tape tied by framed 'Opened By/ Censor. 49' in violet on face and reverse with a red hand-stamp of two parallel bars applied on the printed 'Air Mail' label, censored in London by 'Opened By Examiner 441' label.

Very fine cover paying the 'one baht' rate, carried by B.O.A.C. on the "horse-shoe" routed via Durban, then by ship to Lisbon and air to U.K.. The red parallel hand-stamp indicates the end of air transport.

Morenweiser lists the Penang censor from '2-- 48'.

Air Mail envelope addressed to Sydney, Australia bearing SG 292, 5s violet and SG 296, 50s grey and orange tied by Bangkok GPO date stamp '30th June 41' with bold Thai censor circular '6' or '9' in violet on face, endorsed 'By Airmail/ Per K.L.M. Plane', with bilingual 'Par Avion' label, routed over the Pacific with 'Examined By/ 6868' label anointed '10506' and '281' m/s on label with boxed receiver '4th Sept 1941' on reverse.

Very interesting item from Siam routed via the United States with censor label applied in transit.

Netherlands East Indies. Circa 1945. Stampless envelope written from Den Haag addressed to 'Concentration Kamp, "Aek Pamienke" S.O.K. Ned Ost Indies' with 'Nederlandsche - Indisch/ Roode Kruis' circular hand-stamp in carmine on face.

The 'Aek Pamienke' Camp held 5000 European women and children in three large camps from April to July 1945 in the last month of the Japanese Occupation, the conditions were primitive and a large number of the internees died of sickness and exhaustion.
The Japanese surrender was announced here on August 24, 1945.

Mail into 'Aek Pamienke' Concentration Kamp' (Sumatra) is very scarce. Little mail would have survived.

Netherlands East Indies. (Dutch War of Independence). 1947. Air Mail envelope addressed to 'The French Zone, Wurttemberg' bearing Netherlands Indies 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 477, 60c grey tied by Batavia Centrum date stamp with circular ''Dev/ 5' censor hand-stamp, endorsed 'Par Avion' with 'Opened by Allied Censorship (Neth) label tied by circular 'A.C.N./ 3037' censor hand-stamp on face and reverse with 'Nederlandscheposteryen' label applied by the Dutch Post Office for damaged mail.

Scarce postage dues on cover, the 40cent green a difficult stamp off cover.

Netherlands East Indies. (Singapore). 1940. Air Mail envelope addressed to the Netherlands bearing SG 347, 20c violet tied by Semarang date stamp '5th May 40', routed via Singapore with 'Crown/ Passed by Censor' label tied by framed 'Passed By Censor 156/ Singapore in violet on face and reverse, with circular single numeral '28' on face with German censor tape 'Geoffnet "C" applied in Cologne and tied by German censor with framed '12' in violet applied on arrival.

Morenweiser Type 4a is listed from 19th May 40 and censor numbers 111 - 142. The Passed By Censor two line label black on white (Morenweiser Type 2B) is only known with the date range 7th Sept 39.

The single ring numeral censor appears to have been applied in transit at Singapore early 1940.

Netherlands East Indies. (Australia). 1945. Air Mail envelope addressed to Queensland, Australia headed 'On Active Service' bearing Australia SG 187, 3d purple-brown tied by 'Field Post Office/ 026' date stamp '27th July 45' with framed 'From H.M. Ship/ Passed By Censor' on face and signed.

Australian Field Post Office 026 was based on Morotai Island (Docks Area) 23.4.45 - 25.9.45.

Indonesia. (Viet - Nam War Contingent). 1974. Illustrated 'Warkatpos Khusus Garuda 1V. Indonesia, ICCS Vietnam' postal stationery envelope addressed to the 'Indonesian Contingent, Garuda V, PO Box 2951, Saigon' cancelled by 'Kebayoran/ Pasarminggu date stamp '2nd Feb 74' with framed 'Garuda 1V' endorsed '1X' in blue ink and Jakarta '5/2' on reverse.

The International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS) was the result of the Paris peace accords of '27th Jan 1973' to end the war and comprised military and civilian personal from two communist nations Poland and Hungary and two non - communist nations, Canada and Indonesia to supervise the cease fire, the withdrawal of troops, the dismantlement of military bases, the activity at ports of entry and the return of captured military personal and foreign civilians, however the war continued until Saigon fell on 30th April 1975.
