Hungary. 1874. Registered envelope bearing Yvert 9, 5k red (on reverse) and Yvert 10, 10k pale blue (pair) tied by Dalja date stamp with circular registered 'Preporuceno/ Recommandirt' double ring with m/s '287' inserted.
Dalja in Croatia was part of the Austrian - Hungarian Empire from 1867.
Albania. (British Contingent at Scutari). 1919. Stamp-less picture post card of 'View of Shkodra and Market' addressed to England cancelled by 'Field Post Office/ S 110' date stamp 'July 22 1919.'
On 19th February 1919 the 1/6th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (which had served in Italy in 144th Brigade) was sent to Scutari to emphasis the Allied character of control in Albania. Only a small detachment of troops remained from May 1919.
Mail from the Troops in Albania was passed through Army Post Office S100 at Taranto, Italy, mail can be identified by the Battalion's censor hand-stamp 'No 433' which was used for part of the time in Albania. View cards such as this item of Shkodra (Scutari) also help identification.
Rumania. 1877. Envelope addressed to the 'Bank of Roumanie, Galatz,' bearing Yvert 38, 5b bistre and Yvert 39, 10b blue tied by Braile thimble date stamp with Galatz receiver on reverse.

Egypt. (Censor Mail). 1940. Envelope addressed to Kent bearing 5m brown and 10m violet tied by Cairo date stamp '14th March 40' with 'Censorship/ Dept' in carmine and bold circular 'Postal Censorship/ Passed By Censor/ No 14' in violet on face.
A lovely example of this scarce censor. Only four other Postal Censorship covers recorded by Little in his volume Africa Civil Censorship with one other number 14 censorship sent surface mail to Ireland.

Stamp-less Air Mail envelope addressed to Bangkok cancelled by Pua date stamp '22nd Sept 2514 (1971) with 'Royal Thai Army Border Patrol/ Command' hand-stamp in violet/ blue on face, endorsed 'Army Censor/ Checked' and signed by the Commanding Officer and Bangkok '24th Sept' arrival on reverse.
Royal Thai Army Troops had been in the Doi Phu Kha, National Park (Nan Province) on the Thai Laos border as part of 'Operation Phalat' a military offensive of the Laotion Civil War.
Thailand. (Singapore - Trans - Pacific Mail). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to Connecticut bearing SG 295, 25s orange and slate and SG 297, 1b grey and blue (strip of three on reverse) tied by Bangkok/ 1 date stamp with Thai censor circular '6' or '9' in violet and Singapore brown censor tape tied by 'Passed By/ Censor/ 155' on face and reverse with hand-stamp 'G' and '1' applied in Singapore.
Carried on 'California Clipper' to San Francisco and domestic service to Connecticut.

Very fine cover paying the 'one baht' rate, carried by B.O.A.C. on the "horse-shoe" routed via Durban, then by ship to Lisbon and air to U.K.. The red parallel hand-stamp indicates the end of air transport.
Morenweiser lists the Penang censor from '2-- 48'.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
