Inini was an inland territory of French Guiana administered separately between 6 June 1930 and 19 March 1946 after which all of French Guiana became a department of France.

Registered Air mail envelope addressed to Bangante, French Cameroun bearing 'French Levant Yvert 44, 1f rose/ yellow (strip of five on face and three on reverse) tied by 'Poste Aux Armees/ F.F.L./ B.C.M. 1.' double ring '20th Dec 1943' with Free French registration label on reverse and 'Poste Aux Armees/ F.F.L./ B.M.P. 2' transit '22/12' with 'Contole' censor label in pink tied by 'Poste Aux Armees' double ring and circular 'Croix de Lorraine/ C.M.' censor with circular 'Controle Postal/ Commission A/ Terrotoire du Cameroun' double ring on reverse and 'Douala/ Chargements' transit dated '17 Jan 44' on reverse.
France. (Italy). 1869. Envelope written from Marseille dated '2nd Feb 1869' addressed to Naples, Italy bearing French 'Napoleon' Yvert 22, 20c blue (pair) tied by 'Francia/ via de Mer' hand-stamp and endorsed 'vie de Mare' with Napoli arrival on reverse '6th Feb 69'. Very nice item.
France. (Netherlands). 1863. Envelope addressed to the Netherlands bearing Napoleon Yvert 16, 40c orange (imperf) and Yvert 22, 20c blue tied by '3325' in lozenge with adjacent Naomur date stamp, underpaid with boxed 'Affranchissement/Insuffisent' in red with framed 'PD' both erased in ink and boxed 'PD' replaced and Rotterdam arrival on reverse. Very attractive mixed franking of perf and imperf.
Great Britain (Russia). 1868. Envelope addressed to St, Petersburg, Russia bearing SG 103, 3d rose and SG 105, 6d mauve tied by Manchester/ 498 duplex '15th July 68' with oval 'PD', routed via London and Belgium with 'Aus England Per Aachen/ Franco' in blue/green on face and hand-struck 'Franko' in red and rated '1' on reverse in violet ink m/s , for the local delivery.
The 1866 rate for prepaid letters to Russia or Finland, via Belgium was 9d. / 1/2 oz.
The blue circular mark was applied on the T.P.O. on train No 1.

Registered and Charged envelope addressed to France bearing SG 66, 4d carmine and SG 72, 1s green tied by '194' numeral with adjacent Bristol date stamp 'Nov 6 1858', with hand-struck 'Charge' in black and an additional strike in red with framed accountancy on reverse with 'Postes/ Paris a Calais' wax seals in red (four) on reverse, routed via London with oval 'Registered/ London' and large hand-struck 'Crown/ Registered' in red on face, circular 'PD' and French entry cachet and Nantes arrival '10th Nov' on reverse.
Unusual example of the large Crown/ Registered hand-stamp normally seen on mail via Aachen.

Registered Air Mail Express envelope addressed to Paris bearing SG 351, 1/2d green, SG 379, 4d grey-green and 'Seahorse' SG 414, 2/6d chocolate brown tied by London (Chief Office) date stamp '10th Nov 19' with registration label and endorsed 'By Aeroplane Express'.
Great Britain. (Trans - Atlantic Mail). 1859. Folded letter sheet addressed to New York bearing SG 71, 1s deep green tied by Liverpool/ 466 duplex '27th Sp 59' with oval 'L/ Sp 27/ D' (noted by Robertson to be a 'transit' stamp applied to outgoing packet letters) with 'Crown/ Ship Letter/ Liverpool' on reverse dated 'Sp 28' (Robertson S.15), endorsed 'City of Washington" and rated '6' in circle applied on arrival in New York, the 'Inman Line "City of Washington" not being under mail contract with the Post Office.
The Inman Line "City of Washington" in service from 1856, was wrecked at Cape Sable, Nova Scotia '5th July 1873.'
Paul Ambrose Oliver was a shipping merchant, Union Army hero and inventor after the Civil War.
Great Britain. (Cape Verde Islands). 1877. Folded letter sheet addressed to 'Anthony Smalley, St. Vincent, Cape de Verds' bearing Great Britain SG 147, 6d grey (plate 15) tied by London duplex '8th May 77', sent on the steamer "Elbe".
Anthony Smalley was a shipmaster and agent of Nantucket, Mass.. His papers and manuscripts are in the 'G.W. Blunt White Library, Mystic Seaport.'

Bishop Evington and family made three journeys to Japan between 1874 - 1908.

Fine item from this small island 560 kilometers east of Mauritius. In 1906/07 only 7 mail steamers arrived on the island and the boats stopped calling from December to May on account of severe storms, which makes this January date rather elusive.

Air Mail envelope addressed to Salonique, Greece bearing United States Yvert 242, 20c rose and Yvert 245, 50c violet tied by Pine Bluff/ Ark duplex 'Apr 3rd 1941', carried over the Pacific via San Francisco with 'Via Air Mail' label, framed '36' censorship on reverse (applied in India) with 'Geoffnet' German censor tape (g for Wien) tied by German censor in orange with hand-stamp instructional 'Return To Sender/ Service Suspended' in carmine on face and returned via New York '1st Dec 41' slogan on reverse.
Greece was invaded by the Germans at the beginning of April 1941 and effectively occupied by the end of that month. This letter posted on the 3rd April 1941 was paid to go to Greece on the Transpacific service via San Francisco and onward via India and Iraq to Egypt and then Greece (70 cents Air Mail rate). Censored by the German authorities. Place of censorship Vienna (code g on the German censor label). Arrived back in New York '1st December 1941.

John Marc also had a fine selection of the Chinese Labour Force which are not often seen, he built this selection over thirty years. One of the darker aspects of World War One was the plight of 12,000 Chinese workers who were recruited by the British Army from the North of China in 1916 to serve on the battle front in France as labourers, trench diggers, munitions carriers, mine disarmers and corpse bearers under often inhumane conditions. A large number were also struck down by the devastating Spanish flue of 1918.
