The North West part of France was occupied by German Forces after the invasion in May/ June 1940, the Germans censored the letter but returned the mail from abroad that had been sent into occupied France.

Very nice item from the Free French Forces in Syria sent Air Mail across Africa to Gabon.

Stamp-less envelope addressed to Saint Thomas, Danish West Indies written from Pointe-a-Pitre dated '25th Sept 1861' with Pointe-a-Pitre/ Guadeloupe date stamp, forwarded via the British Post Office with 'Crown/ Paid at Guadeloupe' in red on face and British Post Office 'Guadeloupe' date stamp on reverse in red 'Sept 26 61', endorsed 'via Anglaise' with British Post Office St. Thomas arrival on reverse 'Sept 29' and rated '4' in red m/s crayon. Superb item for the Exhibitor.

Registered United States postal stationery envelope 2c rose upgraded with SG 271, 3c violet, SG 275, 8c violet/brown and SG 286, 5c blue tied by oval 'Reg Div./ Springfield, Mass/ Nov 6 1900', addressed to 'The Congregational Mission, Vila, New Hebrides', endorsed 'via Sydney', New South Wales', Australia', routed via San Francisco with registration label and 'Nov 12' transit, arrived in New Hebrides with m/s instructional 'Not Known at Vila, New Hebrides' with boxed 'Unclaimed' in pink on face, returned via Sydney with circular unframed 'Dead Letter Office/ Sydney, N.S.W.' in carmine on reverse dated 'Mr 128 1901' and circular 'Registered/ Sydney' 'March 25' and oval 'Registered Branch/ Dead Letter Office 'Jun 5th' on return in Mass with hand-struck 'Return Receipt Demanded' struck thrice. Rare item of early mail into New Hebrides.

Envelope headed 'Protectorat de Iles/ Wallis et Futuna/ Resident de France' addressed to 'Monsieur Grossin, Colonel de Gendarmerie, Saigon Cochinchina' bearing New Caledonia Yvert 92, 10c rose tied by 'Pt Francais/ Wallis' double ring '9th Nov 10' with Saigon Central arrival '28th Jan 11' and forwarded to France with Loir receiver '1st Mars 11' on reverse. Very rare item of mail from Wallis to French Indo-China.
Wallis used the stamps of New Caledonia until 1920.

French Maroc. (Bermuda). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to New York bearing French Maroc Yvert 182, 1f brown (2 on reverse), Yvert 188, 2f green (6), Yvert 193, 3f brown (3) and Yvert 197, 10f scarlet (2) tied by Tangier slogan, routed via Lisbon and intercepted by the British in Bermuda with 'Opened by Examiner/ 4319' label with '1.C. /' hand-stamp and hand-struck wavy line 'Released' in violet on face and reverse.
A very nice item sent Air Mail over the Atlantic and held during the war, subsequently a little edge ware.
Censor hand-stamp not recorded so early by 'Burrows' and U.K. number not recorded.

French Morocco. (Maroc Local Post). 1896. Envelope addressed to the 'Receiver of the French Postes, Tangier' bearing French Maroc Yvert 3a, 10c black/ lilac tied by Mazagan/ Maroc double ring '5th Mai', routed via Marrakesh with 'Mazagan to Marrakesh' Local Post Yvert 48, 20c brown/ lilac tied by 'Brudo/ Marrakesh' date stamp with French Post Office Tanger arrival '12th Mai 96' on reverse. Lovely internal mixed combination.

French Morocco. (Sudan). 1932. Stamp-less military mail envelope headed 'F.M.' written from 'Lieut. Lecture, 2nd R.Z.S. Aqqa' addressed to Kati, French Soudan cancelled by Poste Aux Armess/ Aqqa' double ring dated '27 Dec 1932' in violet with adjacent Arabic cachet and military cachet 'Le Commandant D' Armees/ Place D' Aqqa', routed via Agadir/ Maroc '1st Jan 33' with Tresor et Postes transit and Kati/ Soudan Francaise arrival on reverse '23/1/33.' Very scarce item of internal mail within Africa.

Air Mail envelope addressed to 'The Free French Forces, Noumea, New Caledonia' bearing Great Britain SG 471, 7d emerald and SG 472, 8d bright carmine tied by Hampstead slogan with 'Opened by Examiner/ PC 90' censor label, routed via Australia with 'Opened by Censor/ 2' label tied by 'Passed by Censor/ S. 82' hand-stamp in violet with circular 'Censure Aliee/ Nouvelle Caledonia/ 5' in violet on face. Very colourful and scarce item from Great Britain sent over two Oceans via Australia to the Free French Forces on New Caledonia.

Advertising envelope for 'Columbia Bicycles' addressed to Papeete, Tahiti bearing United States SG 257, 5c brown tied by Hartford, Conn. machine 'Ap 10 1895', routed via New York and San Francisco, underpaid with '25/ Ctms/ T' hand-stamp on face and bearing French General Colonies postage due Yvert 23, 50c maroon (imperf) tied by Papeete/ Taiti date stamp on face '25th Mai.' A lovely item in Exhibition quality. Pre 1900 Postage Due covers from Tahiti are very scarce.

Le Captaine Commandant' in blue on face. Scarce and attractive item paying the military concession rate of 15 cents.

French Colonies. (New Caledonia). 1910. Picture post card of 'Poro village, New Caledonia' written from Poro and addressed to France bearing New Caledonia Yvert 91, 5c green tied by Nelle Caledonie/ Sce Mme Cote Est' double ring (Salles 2271). A lovely item of mail carried on the Costal Maritime French mail service going East to West around the islands.
Poro was a small village on the north coast of the island known for its nickel mine.

Philippines. (United States Administration). 1901. Envelope addressed to London bearing US Philippines SG 257, 5c blue (pair) tied by Singapore double ring 'Jan 9 01' with arrival on reverse. Lovely item from the United States Administration taken by paquebot and cancelled in transit in Singapore

British West Indies. (British Guiana). 1929. Post card addressed to Georgetown, British Guiana bearing Great Britain SG 357, 1d scarlet tied by Putney roller '7th Feb 1929', underpaid with octagonal 'T/ 10/ L' and hand-stamp 'Postage Due ....02' applied in violet on face in Demerara.

China. (India). 1943. Air Mail envelope written from the 'Friends Mission, Chin Lung Kai, Chengtu' addressed to London bearing SG 636a, $1 olive-green, SG 638a, $2, blue-green (2), SG 641a, $5 carmine and SG 656, $10 red-brown (imperf) tied by Chengtu date stamp, endorsed 'Via B.O.A.C.' to Egypt/ then quickest way', routed via India with Calcutta 'Opened by Examiner' label. Very fine.
The mail was sent C.N.A.C. to Calcutta and B.O.A.C. horseshoe route to Cairo and by surface mail to England.

China. (Tibet). 1962. Post card addressed to Lhasa, Tibet bearing China SG 2032, 8f carmine-lake (pair) tied by vernacular date stamp.

French Levant. (Rhodes). 1861. Stamp-less envelope addressed to Syros cancelled by French Post Office in Rhodes 'Rhodes/ Turquie' date stamp '2nd Juin 61' (Pothion Type B) and rated '80' (lepta) tax in red crayon on arrival. Very fine and scarce item from the French Post Office in Rhodes.

French Levant. (Rumania). 1858. Stamp-less envelope written from Galatz addressed to Constantinople cancelled by Galatz/ Moldavie date stamp '16th Oct 58' in blue with French Post Office Constantinople on reverse '20th Oct' and charged with hand-struck '10' tax on arrival. Scarce French Levant postmark. Very fine.

Envelope addressed to Marseille written from Rodosto dated '9th Jan 1875' with firms oval chop 'Isac Modiano & Figlio/ Rodosto' on face, bearing France 'Siege de Paris' Yvert 38, 40c orange (pair) tied by '5084' gross chiffres in lozange with adjacent Les Dardelles/ Turquie date stamp '13th Jan', boxed 'PD' and maritime 'Paquebots De La/ Mediterranee' in red on face and Marseille arrival. Very rare item from the French Post Office in Rodosto and forwarded through The Dardanelles.

Denmark. (Faroe Islands). 1940. Air Mail envelope addressed to Great Britain bearing Denmark Facit 99, 1 ore grey (block of four), Facit 108, 8 ore grey (pair) and Air Mail Facit 264, 20 ore turquoise tied by Thorshavn date stamp '17th July 40' with 'Opened by Examiner/ 564' censor tape. Scarce Danish Air Mail used in the Faroe's, a very fine franking paying the 40ore Air Mail rate to UK.

Netherlands East Indies. (Palestine). 1940. Air Mail Netherlands Indies postal stationery card 3 1/2c grey upgraded with SG 397, 2c violet and SG 406, 25c blue-green tied by Pangkalan/ Brandan date stamp '10th June 40' with 'Miltaire Censur/ Medan' hand-stamp and 'Per Luchtpost/ Avion' label, addressed to Switzerland with framed 'Palestine/ Passed By/ Censor/ T. 5' and boxed 'Crown/ Passed P.6' on face. Very attractive item.
The British censor number P. 6 not recorded by Morenweiser. Numbers P.11 to P46 known in use May and June 1940.

Netherlands East Indies. (Singapore). 1940. Photographic post card of 'Durian seller' addressed to Morava bearing Netherlands Indies SG 403, 10c scarlet tied by Batavia date stamp '13th March 40', routed via Singapore with 'Passed For Transmission' hand-stamp and framed instructional 'Opened by British/ Naval Authorities' in violet on face and circular German censor cachet (+) applied on arrival in Munchen in red.
Scarce censor applied when Royal Navy ships boarded neutral (mostly Dutch) vessels and intercepted mail to Nazi Germany and Austria between Sept 39 and April 1940.

(Onward Air Transmission) applied in carmine. Interesting routing, as no communication between Russia and Sweden the service was B.O.A.C. from Leuchars (Fife) to Bromma (Stockholm).

Pre-stamp envelope written from Singapore dated 'October 13th 1828' addressed to London, rated '1/3d', routed via India and taken up the River Dart with framed 'India Letter/ Dartmouth' in black on reverse (Robertson In 1) and London receiver '20th March 1829'.' Lovely item charged India sea postage 4d and Inland Dartmouth to London 9d. Total due 1/3.
