Malaya. (Japanese Occupation - Prisoner of War). 1944. Malaya Japanese Occupation postal stationery card 3 1/2c red-orange cancelled by Prisoner of War hand-stamp with framed 'Ken'etsuzumi' (censored) with oval censor seal. Very fine and scarce item.

Japan. (Canada - Civilian Internee). 1944. Envelope headed 'Prisoner of War Mail' and 'Postage Free', written from 'Miss Nadiya Simoes, Vancouver, Canada' addressed to 'Afredo Simoes, British Civilian, Internee c/o Kencho - Foreign Section, Kanagawa Prefectural Office, Yokohama, Japan/ via New York, New York' cancelled by 'Aug 17 1944' date stamp, routed via New York with 'Examined By' censor tape tied by '11119/ US. Censor' cachet (for POW Mail), opened in Tokyo and re-sealed with censor tape and framed 'Prisoner of War Camp Headquarters Censored' in carmine with oval censor seal in box on face.
Censor seal not listed or illustrated by David Tett.
Only mail to civilians appear to have been opened in Tokyo and re-sealed.

Canada. (Finland - Prisoner of War Mail). 1943. Folded letter sheet from 'Jorma Korhonen No B- 1011 (Finish POW), Fredericton Internment Camp, Fredericton, N.B. Canada' headed 'Prisoner of War Mail' with 'Free/ Franc de Port' dated '29th March 1943' addressed to 'Mr Emil Auer, Representative of the American Aid for War Prisoners, Buffalo N.Y.' with circular 'Comite International de la Croix Rouge Geneve (Suisse)/ Delegation au Canada' in red on face and circular 'Crown/ Canada Int. Op./ Censored/ 9' and signed by the Camp Commander.
Rare item from a Finnish Prisoner of War in Fredericton Camp, New Brunswick.

Thailand. (Burma - Thai Railway). 1944. Sixth Prisoner of War card from Thailand issued by the Japanese 'Dove and Helmut', a mint card headed 'Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre.'
In November 1944 the men who had stayed behind on the railway has a last chance to write home. Only cards from the Dutch Prisoners in Camp 2. 4 and 7 are known addressed to Java.
An unused sixth POW card must be quite rare to find.

Australia. (Gibraltar - Horseshoe Route - POW Mail). 1944. Air Mail envelope written from the 'Commonwealth of Australian/ Prisoner of War Information Bureau/ Melbourne' addressed to 'The Secretary, Central Agency for Prisoners of War/ International Red Cross Committee, Geneve, Switzerland' bearing SG 192, 1s olive-green and SG 208, 5 1/2d indigo (pair) tied by Melbourne roller '21st Sept 44' with '3 Opened by Censor' label tied by framed '3 Passed by Censor/ 199' on face and reverse in carmine, routed via Gibraltar with transit 'Oct 22' on reverse.
Carried the "Horseshoe" route via South Africa, Cairo, Djerba and on Sunderland flying boat via Gibraltar to Foynes (Ireland) and on to Poole.

Australia. (Red Cross - Libya POW Camp). 1942. Air Mail Red Cross envelope written from Adelaide, S.A. headed 'Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' from the 'Australian Red Cross' addressed to 'S.X. 7267, Private G.R. Rooney, Australian Prisoner of War in GARARESCO/ Feldpost 12545/ c/o Agence Centrale des Prisonniers de Guerre, Comite International de la Croix Rouge, Palais de Conseil General, Geneve, Switzerland' bearing Australia SG 192, 1s grey-green tied by Melbourne roller '1st May 1942' with '3/ Opened by Censor' label tied by boxed '3/ Passed by Censor/ 301' in violet on reverse and face and imprinted 'Par/ Avion/ Aust. - U.S.A. - Portugal.'
Very attractive item, sent by sea to San Francisco and on by air via Lisbon.
Scarce item to an Australian P.O.W. in Feldpost 12545, a transit camp in Gargaresc near Derna, Libya.
The Camp was notorious for the ill treatment of the internees.

Somaliland. (British and Italian Somaliland). 1945. Air Littoria Air Mail envelope addressed to London bearing British Occupation of Italian Cols Somalia SG 54, 3d pale violet and SG 58, 1s bistre tied by Mogadishu date stamp '27th Mar 45' with framed 'Crown/ Passed/ YY/ - (1), (one in red crayon) with bilingual 'Opened by Censor/ Aperto dall' esaminatore' label with circular '113' applied in Sudan. Very scarce censor hand-stamp and label.

Burma. (Thailand). 1896. Indian postal stationery envelope 'half anna' green cancelled by Thaton squared circle 'Nov 1st' addressed to Moulmein with 'Moulmein/ 1st Dely' on reverse and endorsed 'Gone to Siam' in blue crayon.
Thaton squared circle only date listed by Proud (2.3.91.) Scarce

Isle of Man. 1908. Picture post card 'The Last Toast Rack, Home, Douglas Parade' addressed to St. Helens bearing Great Britain SG 218, 1/2d yellow-green tied by 'Knockaloe Camp/ Peel' skeleton '21st July 08.'
Knockaloe Camp was one of two Extensive training camps for the regular army, known on the Isle of Man, participants included the Liverpool and South Lancashire Regiments.
This Camp postmark was only in use during 1908 and is illusive to find in such nice quality.

Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to France bearing Shihr & Makalla SG 20, 5c on 1a blue (pair), SG 21, 10c on 2a sepia, SG 23, 20c on 3a sepia and carmine and SG 24, 50c orange tied by bilingual Mukalla date stamp '16th Oct 54' with registered label, routed via Aden with instructional 'By Air Up To ...... Aden' in violet (struck twice) and Auxerre arrival. Scarce Air Mail instructional.

Registered envelope addressed to Gheil Bawazir, via Mukalla bearing Shihr & Mukalla SG 21, 10c on 2a sepias and SG 22, 15c on 2 1/2a blue tied by bilingual Reidat Abdul Wadud date stamp 'My 3rd 55' with framed 'R/ Reidat Abdul Wadul/ No' hand-stamp on face with Mukalla/ Reg transit on reverse. Very fine and scarce the boxed registered hand-stamp not listed by Proud.

British Somaliland. 1945. Envelope written from the 'Paymaster - General's Office/ British Somaliland' addressed to California bearing SG 108, 3a blue tied by Hargeisa double ring with circular '113' censor cachet on face.

Australia. (Maritime Mail). 1933. Envelope addressed to Sydney bearing SG 94, 1/2d orange and SG 97, 1 1/2d brown tied by 'Posted On Board First Australian Exhibition Ship To The East/ T.S.S. British West Indies. (Cayman Islands - St. Helena). 1939. Envelope addressed to St. Helena bearing Cayman Islands SG 116, 1/2d olive-green tied by 'The Creek/ Cayman Brac. C Is' date stamp 'De 11 39' with hand-stamp ''Passed By/ Censor' in violet, underpaid with circular 'T' hand-stamp in carmine and endorsed '1d' in blue crayon with St. Helena SG 132, 1d green (pair) applied and tied on arrival by St. Helena receiver '5th Feb 40..' Attractive combination. Nice use of St. Helena stamps as postage due.

Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to Amsterdam, Netherlands bearing SG 398, 5c green, SG 401, 20c blue and SG 430, $2 brown tied by Shanghai date stamp '26th Sept 39' with matching registration label, endorsed 'via Hong Kong/ Bangkok (or Singapore) and 'per K.L.M.' with hand-struck 'Registered' and Registered/ Hong Kong transit on reverse '3rd Oct 39' and Amsterdam receiver on face. Very attractive item routed over the Pacific on K.L.M. via Bangkok

Envelope written from 'The Bank of Indo-China, Djibouti, Cote des Somali' addressed to 'The Bank of Indo-China, Hankow' bearing Cote des Somalis Yvert 240, 1f turquoise and Yvert 29, 10f blue and carmine tied by Djibouti/ Cote des Somalis date stamp '17th Nov 49' with Aden transit on reverse '2nd Dec 49' with boxed instructional 'Service Suspended/ Returned To Sender' in violet on face. Fine item of ingoing mail 'Suspended' due to the continuing unrest in China with the Nationalist Communist War.

China. (Suriname - Shanghai Local Post). 1896. Suriname postal stationery card 5 cent purple upgraded with Yvert 19, 2 1/2c carmine tied by Paramaribo double ring '3rd Mars 1896' addressed to Shanghai, China, endorsed 'Per French Mail' with hand-struck 'Suriname/ over/ St. Nazaire' on face with octagonal French paquebot and 'Marseille/ Entranger' transit '26th Mars' with French Post Office Shanghai '30th July' and Shanghai Local Post '1st Aug' on face. Superb item of destination mail and wonderful item for the collector/ exhibitor of the Shanghai Local Post.

Picture post card of 'Buffalo and Cart, Constantinople' addressed to 'Pehan Railway, Pao-Ting-Fou, China' bearing Levant 'Type Blanc' Yvert 13, 5c green tied by Constantinople/ Galata/ Poste Francaise double ring '25/2', routed via Alexandria and Suez (Ambulant) '3rd Mars' with 'Singapore To Hong Kong' marine sorter 'Mr 22nd' sent on the steamer "Valetta" with Imperial Post Shanghai and framed tombstone with Paotingfou dollar chop on face. Very nice item paying the sic cent cross border rate between Imperial China and French Indo-China.

Scarce item, the camp housed German, Austrian and Turkish prisoners with the majority Canadian of Ukrainian descent.
