British Occupation of Italian Colonies. (Dodecanese). 1947. Envelope addressed to New York bearing Middle East Forces SG M13, 2 1/2d pale blue and SG M14, 3d pale violet tied by Symi/ Dodecanese date stamp '21st Mar 47.' Very fine.

Symi was occupied by the Italians during and after WW1. On October 12 1943 the Nazis occupied the island until the surrender of German forces which resulted in three years of British Occupation.

British Occupation of Italian Colonies. (Dodecanese). 1946. Air Mail envelope written from 'Patmos Island' headed 'B.N.A.A. Service via UK' addressed to Washington bearing Middle East Forces SG M18, 1s bistre-brown tied by Leros/ Dodecanese date stamp '19th Oct 46', hand-stamped 'By Air Mail/ Per Avion', routed via Rhodes/ Egro.
Lovely item cancelled on Leros and routed via Rhodes where the By Air Mail/ Per Avion was applied and sent By North American Air Services.

Leros and the Dodecanese were occupied by Italian Forces during WW1. During World War Two the Italians joined forces with the Germans. By 6th Sept 1943 Italy could not continue in the war on the German side and they sighed an armistice and came over to the Allied camp. British reinforcements arrived and heavy bombing of the island by the Germans took place leading to the British surrender of the island to the Germans between 12th and 16th November 1943. The Allies Greece and Britain finely retook the islands May 9th 1945 as the war came to its close.

Scarce cancel from this small Libyan town during the British Occupation of Cyrenaica 1942/43.

French Levant. (Salonique). 1863. Folded letter addressed to Italy bearing French 'Napoleon' Yvert 13, 10c bistre (imperf pair), Yvert 14, 20c blue (imperf strip of four) and Yvert 16, 40c orange (imperf 2) tied by '4012' in lozange with adjacent 'Salonique/ Turquie' date stamp, routed via 'Les Dardanelles' with Livorno arrival. Very rare 'Petit Chiffres' used in Salonique paying the 2 franc double letter rate. Exhibition item.

Morocco. (French Occupation). 1930. Air Mail envelope written from Riad Damia addressed to France bearing French 'Sower' Yvert 237, 40c ultramarine (pair) tied by 'Poste Aux Armees/ Ksar-Es-Souk' double ring, endorsed 'Par Avion' with 'Postes Aux Armees/ 419' date stamp on reverse. Scarce item from the French Occupation of Maroc.

French Colonies. (Tahiti). 1894. Folded letter sheet headed 'Service Des Colis Postaux' addressed to Papara bearing Tahiti Yvert 10, 5c green tied by Papeete/ Taiti double ring '9th Dec 94'.
A very fine and scarce item from the Parcel Post Service in Papeete giving 'third notice that 5 cents is due for a letter'.

French Levant. (Turkey). 1894. Envelope addressed to Greece bearing French Levant Yvert 4, 1pi on 25c black/ rose tied by Dardanelles/ Turquie double ring dated '26th Oct 94' (Pothion Type E) with second strike adjacent and Athens arrival on reverse '2nd Nov'. Very fine.

Austria. (Used in Czech Republic). 1868. Folded letter addressed to Teplitz bearing Austria 'Fiscal' 5kr black and rose tied by Podersam date stamp '14/2' with adjacent framed 'Teplitz/ Zeits. FXP.' receiver on arrival '15/2' on face. Scarce item.

Haiti. (Paquebot). 1902. Picture post card of 'The Market, Port au Prince' written by 'P. Herrmann & Co/ Port au Prince' with firms oval chop, dated '5th Dec', addressed to Germany bearing Yvert 51, 3c green tied by hand-struck 'S.S. Paloma' in blue with 'Paquebot (N.Y. 2d Div) hand-stamp and Bremen arrival '26th Dec 02.' Attractive item.

Colombia. (Paquebot). 1903. Envelope addressed to Springfield, Mass. bearing Yvert 104, 20c brown/ blue tied by hand-struck 'Adirondack' in blue with 'Paquebot (N.Y. 2nd Div) hand-stamp on face with New York transit 'Feb 18 1903' and oval 'Train Late/ Mail Delayed' with Springfield arrival. Attractive item.

Postal Agency/ Shanghai' date stamp 'mar 14', routed via Yokohama with Yokohama/Japan thimble cds '22nd Mar 1883' on face with San Francisco/ Paid All transit 'April 14' in red on reverse and Ithaca, New York arrival (very feint).

Chile. (British Post Office). 1853. Stamp-less folded letter written from Valparaiso dated '14th November 1853' addressed to France cancelled by British Post Office 'Valparaiso' date stamp 'Nov 15' with framed 'Via Panama = Inglaterra' in blue, bold hand-struck 'Panama/ Transit' in red on face, routed via London with French entry cachet, Paris transit and Chalons S. Saone arrival '7th Jan 1854' on reverse, taxed with hand-struck '42' for triple rate cover, top left m/s '8' for the ship-letter fee. Very nice cover.

France. (Trans-Atlantic Mail). 1867. Envelope written from La Havre addressed to New York bearing France 'Napoleon' Yvert 32, 80c rose tied by '769' in lozenge with adjacent Le Havre '23rd Nov', framed 'P.P.' in red, endorsed 'per Steamer "Minesotta" le Liverpool' with 'London/Paid' in red on face and 'British Sea Post Office, Liverpool' segmented ring (Robertson M. 1) on reverse and circular 'New York Ship Letter/ 4' dated 'Dec 8'.

Superb item sent on the 'Guion Line' steamer "S.S. Minnesota" in service 1867 - 1875. This Trans-Atlantic cover sent in the first year of service.

Stamp-less folded letter sheet written from Calcutta dated '11th Nov 44', addressed to Batavia, Netherlands Indies, endorsed 'per "Robertoy" via Siungapore' with bold oval 'Forwarded By/ Apcar & Stemphens' in black on reverse with m/s date '26th Dec 1844' in center and charged '60' styvers' on face in Batavia. Lovely item of Forwarded mail from India via Singapore with cachet not recorded by Rowe.

Very bold strike of the highest quality.

Envelope addressed to Germany bearing Japan 'Return of Crown Prince from European Tour' SG 207, 3s bronze mixed with Japanese Post Office SG 13, 10s blue and SG 34, 1s orange (7) tied by Tsingtau/ I.J.P.O.. Nice mixed franking paying the double letter rate to Europe.

Picture post card of 'view of Shanghai' written from the 'French Military Croiseur "D' Estrees", Shanghai', dated '10th Nov 20' addressed to France bearing Japanese Post Office SG 34, 1s orange tied by Shanghai/ I.J.P.O. date stamp '7th Nov 1920' with circular 'Marine Francaise/ Service a la Mer' on face and reverse with La Rochelle arrival.

Built for the French Navy in 1899 she patrolled with the Northern Squadron as concern grew in the rise of the Italian and German Navy. By WW1 she was based at Jeddah and the Red Sea ports then escorted convoys from French Madagascar to French Somaliland. After the war she was refitted at La Ciotat and sent to French Indo-China and patrolling the seas of China.
Very interesting item, a superb looking card.
