Air Mail envelope addressed to Shanghai bearing United States Air Mail SG A630, 20c yellow-green and SG A777, 50c rose tied by Chicago roller 'Jan 11 41', endorsed 'Trans-Pacific' and routed via Hong Kong with 'G.R./ Opened by Censor/ Hong Kong' (red on white) label with boxed '30' in violet on reverse tying label and small framed '49' in turquoise on reverse with circular 'Air Transit/ 3' on face in blue/green (applied in Hong Kong). Nice item of mail sent over the Pacific via Hong Kong.

China. (Trans - Pacific Mail). 1941. Air Mail envelope addressed to Amsterdam, Netherlands bearing SG 423, 25c orange, SG 431, $5 carmine, SG 517, 15c maroon and SG 593, 50c blue tied by Shanghai date stamp '1st July 41', endorsed 'By Pan America Airways via U.S.A.' with German censor tape tied by circular censor cachet in red on reverse and Amsterdam arrival on face. Nice item of Trans-Pacific Mail.

China. (Trans - Pacific Mail). 1940. Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to Amsterdam, Netherlands bearing SG 403, $1 brown and grey, SG 415, 10c purple and SG 456, 10c on 20c blue (2) tied by Shanghai date stamp '31st Dec 39' with matching registration label, endorsed 'via U,S,A,' with Amsterdam receiver '19/1/40' on face.

China. (Chinese Republic). Circa 1949. Air Mail Express envelope bearing SG 1424, $500 orange (block of four) and SG 1429, $300 bright green (block of four) tied by Tsingtao date stamp with boxed Air Mail and hand-struck instructional in violet with part Express label in turquoise. Very fine.

Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to New York bearing Persia 'Air Mail' Yvert 46, 2t green and brown with 5r blue (3) and 25d violet (pair) tied by Arak date stamp with framed 'R/ Arak' hand-stamp with 'Anglo - Soviet - Persian Censorship/ 11' and Russian section censor, endorsed 'Via Air Mail Teheran - Bagdad' and routed via Iraq with '16' censor cachet in violet with 'Opened by Examiners' label (red on white) applied in Bombay with New York arrival. Superb item routed via Iraq and India.
The 'Opened by Examiners' Resealing label is very scarce.

Persia. (Kurdistan Censors). 1917. Envelope addressed to Teheran bearing Yvert 302, 1c green and orange and Yvert 305, 5c carmine and lilac tied by Hamadan (Depart) double ring with framed bilingual 'Observed by the Military Censor' in black on face.
The region of Kurdistan was under control of Persian and Russian Force intermittently from late 1915 until the end of the Ahmad Shah era. A few different censors were used from the towns of Hamadan, Kermanshah and Sanandaj.

The rectangular black censor in both Persian and Russian inscriptions reading "Observed by the Military Censor' was applied in Hamadan from April 1916 through December 1917.

Persia. 1910. Registered envelope written from Broujerd addressed to Teheran bearing Yvert 221a, 1c Registered label (block of six) paying the double internal postage rate with Teheran/ No 13' receiver. Very fine.

Persia. (Turkish Post Office in Iraq). 1896. Registered envelope addressed to Bagdad bearing Yvert 74, 1c violet (strip of three) and Yvert 80, 1k yellow and orange tied by Tauris date stamp with 'R/ Perse' registration label, routed via Teheran with Turkish Post Office 'Bagdad/ Turquie' double ring receiver. Very attractive item.

Scarce mail into the Turkish Post Office in Iraq.

Persia. (France). 1904. News-Band wrapper addressed to 'Revue de Monde Musulman', (Muslim World Revue) Paris bearing Yvert 201, 5c green on blue (2) tied by Teheran date stamp. Lovely item to France paying the Printed Matter rate. A scarce item.

Malaya. (Penang). 1956. Registered Penang postal stationery envelope 'twenty cents' blue upgraded with Penang SG 29, 2c orange and SG 34, 10c purple (2) tied by Mc. Nair Street/ Penang date stamp with matching registration label and circular 'AR' hand-stamp on face, addressed to Kuala Lumpur.

Very scarce item of incoming mail to Gambia. How much mail into The Gambia has survived !

Proud lists the Received Gambia with star as being in use (26.4.95) - (21.11.02).

French Colonies. (Oceania - Tahiti). 1894. Envelope addressed to Germany bearing Oceania Yvert 2, 2c pale-brown (5) mixed with Tahiti Yvert 24, 15c blue tied by Papeete/ Taiti date stamp '12th Sept 94', endorsed 'via New York' with Stuttgart arrival on reverse. Lovely mixed issue combination.

French Colonies. (Dahomey - Benin). 1890. Registered envelope addressed to Germany bearing Benin Yvert 37, 10c black/ blue and Yvert 39, 20c green/ red (pair) tied by Quidah/ Dahomey double ring '28th Nov 98' with hand-struck boxed 'R', endorsed 'via Klien Popo per "Woermann Dampfer", routed via Agoue and Grand Popo. Lovely item from this small French Colony.

The Woermann Line was a Hamburg Shipping Company in West Africa.

French Colonies. (New Caledonia). 1895. Registered postal stationery envelope 15c blue upgraded with New Caledoinia Yvert 45, 10c black/ lilac and Yvert 62, 25c blue tied by Thio/ Nouvelle Caledonie double ring in blue '18th Feb 05' with hand-struck 'R' addressed to Switzerland , routed via Noumea with Luzern arrival '5th Juin 95.' Lovely item of registered postal stationery from this small New Caledonian town to Switzerland.

French Colonies. (Madagascar - St. Helena). 1903. Picture post card of 'Vue d' Antsiane, Diego-Suarez' addressed to St. Helena bearing French Madagascar Yvert 53, 0.10 on 50c pink tied by Diego-Suarez double ring '4th Juin 03' in blue, routed via the French Post Office Zanzibar '26th Juin' with octagonal Lourenco Marques transit '6/7' and St. Helena arrival on face. Wonderful destination and routing via Zanzibar and Mozambique.

Australia. (Netherlands East Indies - Borneo Island). 1940. Envelope addressed to Bandjemassin, Borneo Island bearing Australia SG 186, 3d blue tied by Melbourne date stamp with hand-struck 'Gecensureerd' in carmine on face. Very fine.

Scarce censor hand-stamp believed to have been applied on Dutch Borneo.

C. 7' on face, routed via Great Britain with framed 'Crown/ Passed T. 123' censor in carmine and framed instructional 'No Service/ Return To Sender' in violet on face with small boxed 'R.K.' and struck with 'Gecensureerd/ 2' on return to Batavia

Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to Penang, Straits Settlements bearing 'Prexie' SG 821, 20c emerald, "Transporter' SG A905, 20c green and SG A 907, 50c orange tied by oval concentric ring with framed 'Registered' and hand-struck 'Via Air Mail' in violet with New York/ Reg 'June 20', Singapore transit and Penang double ring arrival '2nd July' on reverse. Very attractive franking.

Portuguese Colonies. (Mozambique - South Africa). 1933. Photographic post card of 'post Office and Town Gardens, Durban' addressed to 'P.O. Box 4, Beira' bearing South Africa SG 43, 1d black and carmine tied by Durban double ring '20th April', underpaid with circular 'T' hand-stamp and bearing Mozambique postage due SG D228, 3c orange tied by 'Poste Restante' arrival '21st April' on face. Very scarce incoming item of postage due mail to Portuguese Mozambique.

French Levant. (Great Britain - Syria - Postage Dues). 1942. Envelope addressed to Beirut, Syria cancelled by London meter '24th Dec 42' with 'Opened by Examiner/ 4884' censor tape, Beyrouth arrival with circular 'Free French' (Cross C/P) double strike, returned to London but bearing French Syria postage dues Yvert 32, 0pi 50 black/ yellow, Yvert 33, 1p black/ blue and Yvert 35, 3p black/ yellow tied by circular 'Postes & Telegraphes' receiver '3rd May 43' on reverse and forwarded back to London and censored again on arrival with 'Opened by Examiner/ 1563' censor label.
(Damage to one Syrian postage Due on opening).

Lettice Jowitt was a Quaker educationist and Refugee worker. During WW2 she taught at the American School of Beirut.

Very nice cover from Great Britain to the French West Africa country of Togo bearing postage dues.

China. (Szechwan Province). 1935. "Francis Garnier" crested envelope written from the 'Francais Garnier/ Flottille du Yang-Tsi-Kiang', routed via Szechwan bearing SG 20, 20c brown-lake tied by Pahsien (Chungking) date stamp '19th Aout 35', routed via Siberia' with Gironde arrival '17/9/35.'
Superb item from the French Gunboat "Francais Garnier" on the Yang-Tsi-Kiang river.

The S.S. "President Taft" had been requisitioned from the American Presidential Lines and spent time in the Far East, Guam and the Philippines during WW2.

China. (German Post Office in China). 1903. Registered envelope addressed to Italy bearing German China S 28, 40pf black and carmine tied by Shanghai/ Deutsch Post date stamp with registered label and Roma arrival on reverse. Very fine.

Very rare item of mail from the Japanese Occupation of Nansuichune previously known as 'Shan - Hai - Kwan.'
