Malaya. (Liberated Dutch Prisoners of War). 1945. Air Mail envelope addressed to a Liberated Dutch Prisoner of War "Camp Singapore' bearing Netherlands Yvert 138, 5c green, Yvert 140, 7 1/2c carmine, Yvert 333, 7 1/2c red, with 2 1/2c blue/ green and 7 1/2c orange/ red tied by Oegstrgeest double ring '28th Dec 1945' with 'Par Avion' label and triangular segmented hand-stamp applied on arrival with m/s 'Leftkamp'. The mail would have been sent via the Information Bureau, Dutch Red Cross, so its likely that the Liberated P.O.W. had been moved to a Thai Camp.

Fine item originally to be sent over the Pacific but due to Pearl Harbour mailed via India and returned due to the Japanese Occupation of Malaya.

Malaya. (Hong Kong). 1936. Air Mail envelope addressed to 'H.M.S. Cornwall, Hong Kong' bearing Straits Settlements SG 265, 8c grey tied by Singapore double ring '9th Feb 36', endorsed 'By Courtesy of Airflight R.A.F./ Singapore, Japan' with arrival '15th Feb' on reverse. Scarce item.
No 205 Squadron commanded by 'Wg. Cdr. C.L. Scott made a Goodwill Flight, Singapore-Kuching-Kudat-Manila-Hong Kong-Amoy-Shanghai, it should have gone on to Tokyo but Admiral Okada was assassinated and a military coup followed.

Registered envelope addressed to Surrey bearing Straits Settlements SG 291, $2 red and green tied by Field Post Office/ S.P. 501 double ring with hand-struck 'From H.M.S./ Passed by Censor' and signed and dated by the Commander, endorsed 'By Pan-American Clipper & Air Mail throughout,' Scarce item, two Ocean route over the Pacific and Atlantic. Sarawak. (Prisoner of War Mail). 1945. Type 5, Prisoner of War card addressed to England headed 'Furyo Yubin' (Prisoner of War Post) dated '19/5'45' and written from 'P.O.W. Camp. Borneo' (Kuching) with framed 'Boruneo Furyo Shuyosho (Borneo Prisoner of War Camp) with circular seal of "Sugu" in scarlet on face. (Tear at top).

Sarawak. (Batu Lintang, Kuching Civilian Camp). 1943. Civilian card addressed to Manchester headed 'Furyo Yubin' (Prisoner of War Post) dated '3rd Oct 43' and written from Batu Lintang with 'Internment Camp, Borneo' printed on reverse, framed 'Boruneo Tekiseikokujin Yokuryusho Kanrikan (Borneo Enemy Person Internment Camp/ Administration Officer) with circular seal of "Sugu" in scarlet and boxed 'Crown/ Passed/ P.W. 903' applied on arrival and endorsed '19/9/44' indicating arrival in England.
David Tett noted only 5 Civilian cards plus one in the Bulterman collection and this card makes seven.
A separate Civilian compound or camp was opened to accommodate women and children at Batu Lintang.

Sarawak. (P.O.W. Mail - 15th Punjab Regiment). 1942. India 9 pies green postal stationery card (overprinted 'Prisoner of War Post' for use by relatives of Indian Soldiers captured in Sarawak) written from Banda Dah dated '3rd Aug Aug 42' with framed 'Crown/ DHP/ 9' and hand-stamp 'DHP/ 157' in violet, addressed to '15th Punjab Regt. (Sarawak), British Prisoner of War/ c/o The Japanese Red Cross, Tokyo, Japan', a label has been stuck over the address with 'Simonoseki/ Nippon' date stamp '29/10/43' with framed Japanese censor 'Boruneo Furyo Shuyoshe' (Borneo Prisoner of War Camp) and hand-stamped on card and label 'Inconnu/ Retour' in carmine. Also noted in Japanese "There is no applicable person, hence return.
Note the thumb prints front and back to identify the sender.
Watterson lot 2306, Cavendish state only one of two cards known. (The card has had the label removed from right).

A small group of POW's originally captured in Borneo, the 2nd Battalion of The Punjab Regiment consisted of about 783 men. They had been captured in Dutch Borneo reputedly taken to Java but later ended up in Borneo/ Sarawak. The only known survivors were 45 men in Batu Lintang Camp when the Camp was liberated.

Registered envelope addressed to England bearing SG 168, 15c indigo and SG 170, 50c violet tied by Engkilli/ Sarawak date stamp in violet 'Ap 26 50' with hand-struck framed 'R/ Engkilli' in violet on face, routed via Siman Ggang '27/4' and Kuching '28/4' with Singapore and oval Registered/ Ryde Isle of Wight receiver '8th May' on reverse.
